Andrea Tierra & Edmar Castaneda
Andrea Tierra Andrea Tierra, Singer-songwriter from Medellín, Colombia, is the result of the inno-vative mix of popular Latin-American rhythms with jazz, flamenco and the essence of her own poems which she brings to life on all her performances. Her songs are pro-gressive and are often politicized against world injustice. Her contralto voice touches the hearts of the audiences with her interpretations of contemporary love songs as well as new generation songs. With her new project, a quartet including exot-ic instruments as the colombian harp Andrea builds a world of poetry walking through latin american rhythms as Cumbia, Bambuco and Joropo(Colombia), Zamba (Argentina), Lando (Peru) Bos-sa Nova and Samba (Brasil), Flamenco (Spain), mixed with the unique New York style. Andrea’s talent is a family tradition that has been growing within her since her childhood. At an early age she was part of her father’s theater company as a singer and actress traveling throughout United States with great success. Since 2000, Andrea moves to New York and starts her solo singing career, forming a band and playing in the most popular bars and restaurants of the city. in 2006 Andrea released her first Poetry Book called “Canto” (Singing), 4 years later she released her second one, “Mujer en Sol Mayor”, a book dedicated to the strength of womanhood; developed a new concept of poetry mixing her colombian roots with the US culture and her own experiences as inmigrant and New York resident. Andrea has also released two music albums “Melodía Verde” (2007) and “Lluvia de Amores” (2018). Andrea Tierra and her band have toured Europe and Latin America promoting the culture and roots of her native country, Colombia. She has sung in stages like Jazz at Lincon Center, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Jazz Standard, Bimhuis, Blue Note; and renowned festivals like Womad (New Zealand and Australia), Rio Loco (France) and Montreal Jazz Festival among others.
