About the event
FED is a platform for ideas and Jewish creativity that is built into an inclusive community. We feature delicious food; inspirational talks, music, and art; and the company and creative energy of others you find at FED. Traditionally based around dinner parties, in these times we have been operating weekly FED Tables, plugging you into Jewish creativity that you can do at home — and a circle to connect with weekly for deep conversation, meaningful ritual, and the energy and insights of your peers.
Join us Saturday night! At 5:30pm EST, our friends from JewSalsa will kick us off with "An American in Paris," starring Rabbi Tom Cohen. He is originally from Oregon, he was a rock guitarist, and he is now a Reform rabbi, leading Kehilat Gesher in Le Marais, Paris. This will be followed by a Havdalah ritual, and then the presentation by Jewish educator Abby Eisenberg. Together we will explore crucial questions such as:
- Did the Exodus happen?
- Does it matter (to you)?
- In considering our viewpoint on the Israelite (or Jewish) origin story, what is our understanding of God and God’s relationship to humanity, and the “divine word”?
- Might we draw strength and inspiration from an external God of history, or a Higher Power/God-in-our-hearts type of theology?
Following the presentation, you will have the opportunity to discuss these issues in small groups (Tables) with facilitators.
