About the event
Pianist Xu Cheng is an active soloist and chamber musician based in New York City. A native of China, Xu attended Shanghai Conservatory of Music and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from The Juilliard School, where he was enrolled in the accelerated BM/MM program. Highlights of the 2022-23 season include performances at Peter J. Sharp Theater and Rochester Folk Art Guild. For the summer of 2022, Xu was invited to participate in music festivals, as such Classic Lyric Arts in France and Trentino Festival in Italy on full scholarship. The past 2021-22 season includes collaborations with Midori and Friends. Other ongoing work includes performances at various health facilities, nursing homes and private homes through Concerts in Motion (since 2018), in which Xu has had the pleasure to collaborate with other musicians, primarily on Zoom since the covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, as a teacher, Xu has experience working at The Juilliard School, conducting theory class, piano sight-reading class and secondary piano class. Currently, Xu works as a staff pianist at The Juilliard School and Mannes School of Music, primarily collaborating with vocalists, cellists, flutists and clarinetists.
